De Britse danser-choreograaf Jonathan Burrows en de Italiaanse muzikant-componist Matteo Fargion hebben samen een aantal buitengewoon geestige en slimme duetten gemaakt. Hun trilogie Both Sitting Duet, The Quiet Dance en Speaking Dance was verschillende keren in het Kaaitheater te zien.
Burrows en Fargion vormen op de scène een opgewekt en grappig duo: met kinderlijke blijheid voeren zij schijnbaar eenvoudige bewegingen uit, al dan niet begeleid van geluiden. Door de onverwachte wisselingen in de opeenvolging en in het ritme van die bewegingen ontstaat een fascinerende muzikale virtuositeit, die zichzelf echter niet al te zeer au sérieux neemt.
Cheap Lecture is daar een prima voorbeeld van. De voorstelling Show and Tell zal, in tegenstelling tot wat eerder werd aangekondigd, niet worden hernomen.

Pour Cheap Lecture, l’éminent danseur et chorégraphe britannique Jonathan Burrows a retrouvé son vieux compagnon de route, le compositeur italien Matteo Fargion. Préalablement, les deux complices ont créé la trilogie de danse au succès mondial, Trilogy for two gentlemen: Both sitting duet (lauréat du Bessie Award), The quiet dance et Speaking dance. Les critiques qualifient immanquablement leurs créations de minimalistes, spirituelles, abstraites, ingénieuses, subtiles, absurdes et innovantes.
Leur dernier spectacle s’inspire du piano-forte du château Vilain à Leut (Maasmechelen), sur lequel Schubert en personne aurait joué. Pour le reste, ils s’inspirent fortement de deux œuvres du compositeur états-unien John Cage: Cheap imitation et Lecture on nothing, d’où le titre du spectacle.
Cheap Lecture est assurément un spectacle de danse et de musique à la fois intelligent et atypique.

The prominent British dancer and choreographer Jonathan Burrows works once more for Cheap Lecture, together with his companion, the Italian composer Matteo Fargion. Earlier they created the celebrated dance trilogy Trilogy for two gentlemen: Both sitting duet (winner of the Bessie Award), The quiet dance and Speaking dance. The press unanimously describes their creations as minimalistic, witty, abstract, ingenious, subtle, absurd and refreshing. Their latest show is inspired on the authentic pianoforte of the castle Vilain in Leut (Maasmechelen), on which nobody less than Shubert himself would have played. They also got inspired by two works of the American composer John Cage: Cheap imitation and Lecture on nothing, which immediately explains the title. Cheap Lecture promises to be a bright, a-typical musical and dance  performance.
