Een irritatie gaat de ik-persoon zeer tegen zijn zin in op een uitnodiging voor een ‘kunstzinnige’ avond. Wat volgt is een meesterlijke moppermonoloog, waarin tg STAN – en niet in het minst De Schrijver – een literaire tekst kundig ombuigen tot licht en komisch toneelplezier.

Depuis bientôt 20 ans, la compagnie de théâtre tg STAN met en scène des pièces de grands auteurs dramatiques comme Pinter, Molière, Ibsen et Tchekhov. Dans le monologue Brandhout. Een irritatie, Damiaan De Schrijver interprète la troisième partie de la trilogie de Thomas Bernhard à propos des arts. Dans cette partie théâtrale, Bernhard brosse un tableau critique et féroce du comédien infatué, des petitesses des arts de la scène, et par extension de toute la société bourgeoise.
Dans Brandhout. Een irritatie, le narrateur accepte à contrecœur une invitation à une soirée « d’amateurs d’art ». Il s’ensuit un monologue récriminateur magistral, dans lequel STAN – et Damiaan de Schrijver en particulier – convertit habilement un texte littéraire en plaisir théâtral, à la fois drôle et léger.

Een irritatie Damiaan De Schrijver brings into play the third part of Thomas Bernhards trilogy about art. In this part Bernhard performs harsh criticism on the big-headed, self-centred theatre player and the small sides of the artistic world. It is just a small step towards criticism against the narrow-minded parochial society. In Brandhout. Een irritatie the I-character reluctantly answers an invitation for an artistic evening. What follows is a magnificent monologue full of complaints, in which STAN – especially De Schrijver - professionally bends a literary text into a light hearted and comical theatrical performance.
